Modern and accessible Northeast North Carolina

Need Specific Information?

Pro-business tax rates, modern transportation infrastructure, accessible education and high-quality research facilities earn North Carolina a top spot among states for starting and growing a business.

Transportation Infrastructure

A system of transit corridors link together in NE North Carolina to create a convenient and extensive highway system. Along with the region’s central location on the Eastern Seaboard, this makes North Carolina optimally suited for truck access to markets along the East Coast, keeping freight and delivery costs low.

Carolina’s northeastern corner also benefits from two international airports, Norfolk and Raleigh, where businesses can reach nearly 60% of the U.S. population and more than 60% of the nation’s industrial base within two hours.

Port Proximity

Proximity and access to the Port of Virginia provides direct access to more than 100 foreign ports. Home to Foreign Trade Zone #20, the Port of Virginia spreads across 1,864 acres and is the deepest on the U.S. East Coast. Two other international ports provide additional freight opportunities, making Northeast North Carolina part of a global gateway to markets around the world.

Superior Logistics Solutions

Slated for completion in 2020, a significant new intermodal facility will offer a logistical solution to industry shipping challenges. The site will allow trucks to bring cargo containers to a rail yard where they will be transferred to trains for transport. The region is served by two Class 1 railroads and multiple shortline railroads.
